Le Grenier des Alpes is the result of an extensive renovation of the top floor and roof structure of the historic Hotel des Alpes. This project was completed in 2010.
The goal of the project was to rehabilitate the building using an environmentally conscious approach and aesthetic. Modifications to the exterior appearance were kept to a minimum, in keeping with the original design.
The interior design balances both private guest rooms and open common space. This design also results in a space that requires little to no artificial light during the day and creates welcoming and free space.
The interior woodwork, floors and much of the furniture is crafted from tamarack — one of the hardest soft woods and grow on the lower slopes of La Meije. This wood has wonderful grain, is warm, very strong, lively and naturally water repellent — perfectly suited for life in the mountains.
