Lift Access

The cable car of the Telepheriques de La Grave/La Meije operates for the summer season from the middle of June to the middle of September and provides easy access to hike, climb and sightsee.  As an attraction near the top of the lift station, an ice grotto is carved deep into the glacier with tunnels and ice sculptures and is open throughout the summer.

Mountain Biking

There are many options for mountain biking varying from the miles of natural trails on the Plateau D’Emparis to the prepared tracks and lift assisted downhill riding at the ski stations of Les Deux Alpes, Alpe d’Huez and Serre Chevalier.  Les Deux Alpes reopens for skiing in June and operates as one of the largest glacier skiing operations in Europe.  Ski racing training camps and other snow-sport training sessions take place there throughout the summer.

Hiking & Climbing

With La Grave at the doorstep of the beautiful 918 square kilometer Parc National des Ecrins and in the heart of the unexploited Romanche river valley, hiking and climbing opportunities are in every direction – from a tour of the Lautaret Alpine Botanical Gardens to meandering walks through mountainside pastures filled with wildflowers to fixed-cable climbs known as “via ferratta” or to technical climbs on the heavily glaciated peaks of the Massif des Ecrins 2500 meters above — there is something for everyone.

Ice Climbing
Many technical and easy access ice climbs exists along the North exposed cliffs along the Romanche River near La Grave. These climbs are typically best between mid-December to mid-January.

Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing has become a popular winter activity in the area with marked trails and guided outings available from nearly every ski station village. Equipment is easily rented in village ski shops.
